MOATTI-RIVIÉRE HOUSE
FRIGATE 3 / 490 m2

“FROM ART TO ARCHITECTURE, FROM INFINITE REFLECTIONS TO NATURAL MATERIAL, FROM MEDITATION TO PRESENTATION, THIS IS A CREATION OF BOTH HOSPITALITY AND HOME” – ALAIN MOATTI & HENRI RIVIÉRE

The Frigate house revisions the interior as a space for a warm and welcoming life. All furnishings are defined by zones of colour and materials capable of creating a particular atmosphere for each room.

This unique treatment for each space has allowed to express the creativity of designers within an existing architecture. It is marked by its entirely wooden composition and by its classic division into two floors, with a separation between the daytime activity on the ground floor: salon, dining room, and kitchen and night-time space on the upper level: the bedrooms and the meditation room.

The house is a space for private daily life, but it is also a presentational and hosting space. In this sense, the salon and the dining room are the house's masterpieces and we wanted to do them justice.

Presented works and descriptions
Art installation by M.G. Rosin (Galerie Italienne)
Sopha Amphis by Pierre Paullin, Marzorati Ronchetti, 3 rolls (Galerie Italienne)
Ground floor
Foyer
T10 table, V25 vase and T07 coffee table by Marco Zanuso Jr., ensemble of pieces (Galerie Italienne)
Lightning system by Frank Chicheportiche, two items
Because the foyer is the first room to introduce the house, it was given a joyous air by using multicoloured and very contemporary furnishings which create a sort of family of objects. Two lightning systems by the artist Frank Chicheportiche complete this room.
Living Room
Nrystal chandelier Mille Nuits, two items, each with six lights (Baccarat)
Crystal chandelier Solstice with 12 lights (Baccarat)
Amphys canapé (1970) by Pierre Paulin (Courtesy Marzorati Ronchetti)
Dés-ordre rug (2004) by Adrien Rovero (Galerie Kreo)
Damask rug by Laurent Buttazzoni (Tai Ping Carpets)
Floor cushions with a pebble’s shape by Stephanie Marin (Collection Livingstones, Smarin design)
This is the main room of the house and thus its public face and a space reserved for hospitality. The main theme was conceived of a setting around the idea of the ‘infinite mansion’. This effect is achieved thanks to the use of an imprinted mirror wall that covers the left inner wall of the room up to the ceiling. The ceiling itself is also covered with a mirror. The house's inhabitants thus participate in a game of hide-and-seek with their reflections on the printed mirror. The room's dominant colour is blue.
Dining room
Modular Table (2005) by Joanna Grawunder, three tables placed together (Galerie Italienne)
Light system Lastrini (2005) by Joanna Grawunder (Galerie Italienne)
Bella Rifatta chairs by William Sawaya, six items (Forum Diffusion)
Photos by the Chinese artist Gayle Chon Kwan, two items titled ‘Eldorado’ and ‘Resort’ (Galerie Kernot Art)
Cupboard by Kartell
For this place of conviviality and conversation there were chosen a colourful and contemporary look using design furniture made from plastics, a material that allows the use of very different colourings, whether opaque or transparent.
Office
Bakelite table (2001) by Marten Van Severen (Galerie Kreo)
Ripple Chairs (2005) by Ron Arad, four items (Forum Diffusion)
Table lamp (Luceplan)
Yukiwa rug by Kenzo Takada (Tai Ping Carpets)
This space is dedicated to work and is therefore treated seriously but not without a bit of irony: the pieces selected for its furnishing are in black and grey.
Meditation Room
Low dining table (2005) by Joanna Grawunder (Galerie Italienne)
Video by Miguel Chevalier
This room is dedicated to rest and contemplation. A coffee table, accompanied by floor pillows, is placed in the centre of the room. Once kneeling, the visitor can calmly contemplate the projection of a work by Miguel Chevalier from his series Sur-nature (Super-nature), which shows a virtual nature in perpetual evolution.
First Floor
Foyer
Mobile set of white linen elements by Stephanie Marin (Collection Mobilshadows, Smarin design)
Italie rug by Maryvonne de Follin (Tai Ping Carpets)
Once on the second floor inhabitants find themselves in a transitional area before reaching the bedrooms, that part of the house is left for conviviality and the reception of guests and this is the section reserved for rest and intimacy. For such passage between the waking and nocturnal this room is soft and full of light. A mobile set of white line elements freely suspended on the ceiling and a rug with poetic colours and pattern prepare us for the night and for our dreams.
Master Bedroom
Wooden bed
Armchair and a pouf Facett by Erwan and Ronan Bouroullec (Ligne Roset)
Lamp (Foscarini)
Wooden coffee table by Stephanie Marin (Smarin design)
Floor cushions with a pebble’s shape by Stephanie Marin (Collection Livingstones, Smarin design)
